Commissioned Ranks (RAF)
There are twelve officer ranks in the Royal Air Force (inc. Officer Cadet). The rank insignia for commissioned officers is worn on the lower arm of a dress uniform. For working and operational dress, composite braids (rank slides) are worn on the shoulder or chest.

Command flags are usually seen being flown from the top of the Unit/Station flag pole, and indicates the rank of the Unit/Station Commander. Similarly, they are used on official cars and serve to indicate the rank of the occupant.
